He expects me to take the backseat.
The backseat!? Are you kidding me? I called shotgun! And then I fought with my brother for twenty-three and a half minutes about who called it first, which was followed by both of us getting sent to the backseat because mom said, “If you are going to fight over it, then no one gets it!” What kind of logic is that!?
I’m about to tell you the truth. Are you ready? The truth is: when you live life thinking that life is about YOU, then taking the backseat is not logical at all. In fact, it is insane! So you will do anything you can do to make sure that you get the front seat, the best in life, spotlight, center stage, the fame and the fortune, the best of the best, the control. But guess what!? When you get that seat, it’s not near as great as sharing
the backseat with your brother. = )
God is annoying because He expects me to take the backseat…..but I’m actually okay with that. Are you?
Does it sound crazy to you? Well, maybe it is, but it leads to a crazy awesome life filled with plans and opportunities like none that you would think up on your own. Despite what you may have heard, He wants the best for you. He wants to lead and direct you toward a journey of hope, peace, love, and purpose.
“We humans keep brainstorming options and plans, but God’s purpose prevails.”
(The Message)
When you live your life to glorify His son, Jesus Christ, you get so much back in return. You find out that His way is truly the best way. Will all your problems go away? No. Will people stop breaking your heart? No. Will you become rich and famous and own a huge house with a pool and a pool boy? Umm…I don’t know! But, it won’t matter. Your life will not just be about loving yourself anymore. It will be about loving God and others. The icing on the cake is that He will give you the confidence to do great things because He gives you the strength to do them. You no longer have to live life on your own, fighting for yourself in order to survive. You realize that the backseat with fellow brothers and sisters in Christ is the best seat.
God,
Strip us of our selfishness. Help us to give you control over every situation, decision, and relationship. Change us. Place in our hearts the willingness to serve others and to glorify you. Help us to have the right motives. May your love be so evident in our lives that people search for the logic behind it, and instead find themselves falling at your feet.
Humbly and thankfully saying Amen. <3
