“Everybody get down!!” I was sitting on the edge of a beautiful mountain terrace, with the village pastor’s wife, asking her about her day and how she was feeling. All of a sudden, all I can remember is that she grabbed me, pulled me down to the ground with her, and began praying to Jesus in her mother tongue. I immediately began to pray to Jesus…the same Jesus. This same woman then began to shout that she needed to find her little girl and ran up the mountain. From that moment on, many of us heard shouts and screams from villagers down below. We all quickly packed up and moved into a World Food Program campsite for the next two days.
Who signs up for a natural disaster? None of us knew going into this World Race journey that we would face all we have experienced in the past few months, let alone in the past few weeks.
However, the Lord has been faithful, good, and true in the midst of it all. He has proven Himself as Provider, Protector, and Papa again and again. He has been my strength, my peace, and my joy.
Reality still exists. The young girl who tells me, “God must be angry with us.” The fear and worry I see in the eyes of the young children. The woman who lost her only daughter in the first quake. The man who is angry at God.
Where are you, God?
“I’m right here”. Jesus is God, and He is Immanuel, God with us. This unshakeable truth gives me hope. The same Jesus I worship in the U.S. is the same Jesus these people worship and pray to here in Nepal.
As my father frequently has told me, ” the safest place to be is in the center of God’s will”. I believe God has called us here. I have faith that the same God who moves mountains can heal broken hearts. The same Jesus that resurrected from the dead lives in me and His children. Hallelujah! What a Savior!
