Every first of the month I get a little
more excited. Lots of exciting things happen at the start of each
month, we meet our new contacts, move to a new “home” and we
start working with a new ministry. Perhaps the thing that means the
most to me though, is that at the start of each month, I have a
letter to open. I never fully understood, or perhaps appreciated, the
power of the written word until this year. Letters from loved ones
can change your whole outlook of your day. Knowing that letter was
written specifically to you-to laugh over, to cry over, to
encourage you-it’s very special. Even now, after opening my last
letter, it’s still hard to describe how special it truly is.
My very last letter was written by my
brother. (He and my friend Liz were the ones who arranged these
letters for me, before leaving for the race…sneaky). I can’t even
express what that fully meant to me to have my last letter be from my
brother. Tears streamed down my face as I read it. He wrote me that
he loved me and was so proud of me , he also encouraged me to finish
the race strong. That was such a special letter I will cherish
forever. Thank you, Andrew! I love you!!!
…
Now if you hadn’t guessed where else
I’m going with this, I’ll fill you in…
This year, I’ve also been reminded of
THE BEAUTIFUL LOVE LETTER that was written specifically to me, from
God. It’s a letter I’ve cried over, laughed over, been encouraged by
and been given advice through, (not just this year) but my entire
life. In this letter, God has told me about my future and the
promises He has for me. He has told me how much I mean to Him and the
deep love & pride He has for me, His daughter. He has written me
very specific letters at just the right times, when I need them most.
And what powerful words of encouragement and love they are. And now,
I will never underestimate the power of a letter, of the written
Word.
is dying. Letters are such a beautiful thing. I cherish each one I
receive. I would encourage you to write a letter to someone today,
not an email, but a letter-it could even be a card, but you
may never know what that letter or card might mean to someone and how
it could change their day.
