I have begun to realize how much the availability of education in America is taken for granted. Many children in the States, (including myself many times. Sorry, Mom.) try their hardest to get out of attending school. Excuses such as sore throats, high fevers, and bad coughs often become a part of the daily morning routine in a desperate attempt to ditch class.

But education in Swaziland is a privilege that is highly sought after. It is not paid for by the government, but rather the student. Ergo, many bright Swazis do not attend school their whole lives because they live in poverty. They yearn for the opportunity to be educated.

Morgan McKeown from the January team blogged about this, and several of her friends responded by sponsoring the school fees for a year for 3 children: Thulane (boy, age 9), Nhanhlahlah (girl, age 7), and Nosipho (girl, age 7). These children are bright, energetic, and full of love. The two girls have never attended school in their life, while Thulane was forced to withdraw two years ago because his family was unable to pay his school fees. With proper education, these children could very easily be the leaders of Swaziland in the next generation. Praise God! Because of the timing, Morgan was unable to finish this project while she was in Swaziland, so she asked me to make sure the children were enrolled in classes. We expected the fees to be about 500 Rand (about $71) per child, but due to unexpected one-time fees per student, it actually cost 1000 Rand (about $142) per child.

I hate to sound like an infomercial, but I’m asking for your help to cover the difference. We need about $220 total for all 3 children. If you would like to either fully or partially sponsor these children, please email my mom, Laura, at [email protected] and let her know if you are interested. Please copy me on the email, if possible ([email protected]). She will let you know where to send the check. Please note that this will not be a tax deductible donation. Any amount that you could provide would be an enormous blessing to these precious children. Thank you for your support!
