What a great question! My response: be careful what you pray for! God's pretty funny, and definitely has some crazy plans for those who are crazy enough to listen. After moving home from the chaotic, fantasy after-college-life I was living in Santa Barbara (where I went to school), I began praying for God to give me direction as to where to go next. I stumbled upon the World Race website, and I watched this video:
I proceeded to cry like a baby because 1) I knew it was something I wanted to do, 2) I did not want to leave my life behind for 11 months, and 3) why on earth would God want me, Lauren Kelsey, to go on the World Race?! Does he even know who I am?! (Stupid question).
I kept praying for direction. God and I would talk…then we'd start to argue. I would say, "I am completely willing to do what you will for my life! Just show me!" Then he would yell back, "you need to get out of yourself, you need to leave. You're trapped, and you don't even realize it! GO on the World Race." Then I said, "no God, how about something else." Then he said, "you said you'd do what I willed for your life, you LIAR!" Annnnd with that I finally said *gulp* (in pathetic tears, snot running down my nose), "fine God, I'll go."
So there I was! Applying, interviewing, crying, and finally I was confirmed as a World Racer, set to leave January 2013! I Confirmed a month before the deadline. Six weeks before the 10 day training camp in Georgia. And to further complicate things, I still have $1,500 of credit card debt, student loans, and an additional $15,500 fee to go on the trip! And that is just the cherry on top of the dramatic comedy, which is the life of Lauren Kelsey Argue.
So yes! That is how I came to going on the World Race, and that is why I have been led to ask for your help. I am scared about this adventure, excited to see God's plan for my life unwravel, and pressured by daunting financial deadlines. I am asking all my friends and family for prayer AND support.
