One of the many items that did not make it into my backpack this year was my rollerblades. A few of my friends think this fad should have stayed in the 90’s but I beg to differ.

I bought my rollerblades about seven years ago and quickly realized what an awesome stress reliever they were. (Not to mention the only cardio workout, I will agree to anymore.) I would rollerblade as often as I could to blow off steam and made important decisions like which university I was going to attend & what my major was going to be.

While I was in college, rollerblading became a special time I spent with the Lord. I prayed through very difficult seasons on my rollerblades, jammed out and worshiped Jesus on my rollerblades & spent time preparing for the Race on my blades.

Well the first week in El Salvador, we walked to a park really close to our ministry site. I quickly spotted a little girl with rollerblades. I was so excited. Then we saw another, and another & they just kept coming. I was losing it. There was a man renting out a rack of rollerblades for only $1! I’m not even embarrassed to say there might have been a few happy tears. What are the chances that a nice man would be renting out rollerblades in the middle of a park just minutes from my ministry site in El Salvador?!

Well, the “chances” are actually really high. They are high because of the God that I serve. I don’t serve the creator of “coincidences.”

I used to believe God only cared about the big things. But the more I get to know my Father, the more I learn that He delights in the little things. He is a Creator that is sovereign over ALL things. He is a Father that intimately knows His daughter. He knows my weird enjoyment of shoes with wheels and smiled as He let me blade around a Salvadorian park.

He smiled as my team got to take 3 of the girls from the orphanage to the park to rollerblade for the first time. He smiled as we joked and played and I think He might have laughed as we fell down a few times too 🙂
