My time in Tegucigalpa, Honduras has been great. I have been a first and second grade teacher to 9 awesome kids. PE is my specialty 😉 Our host is the principal and a pastor of a church that meets at the school. My team and I have been adjusting wonderfully to a life full of beans, besos, and bucket showers.
The Lord has been teaching me a lot through the most unexpected ways. During my third week here, nausea and dizziness one day turned into a violent illness the next. That night, I got a butt shot from the lady up the mountain and then spent 7 days on a mat next to the bathroom. Not exactly the World Race start I had expected…
While I was sick, my team rallied for me. Their love was so evident through their countless acts of service. Julissa hiked up the mountain after her shower for Honduran Pedyalyte. Heather tucked me in at night and prayed for me. Lyndsay would wake up in the middle of the night to make sure I was taking my medicine. And Sam wrote scriptures of healing and declarations of health on the white board that I slept under.

They love so WELL and being confined to a bed while my team served me, had me uncomfortable to say the least. I came to serve, why am I being served by my team and host?
But there were some truths that I need to rest in and learn.
First, I think in order to serve well, we need to know how to graciously accept help, even when we don’t want it. Love does but love also receives.
Second, love happens in the interruptions. Jesus’ love and grace are always so evident in all situations.
And most importantly, I’m not measured by my actions/performance or what I am able to accomplish here in Honduras or on the World Race. It’s not about what I’m doing, it’s about who He is.
So I’m thankful for the lesson I didn’t want.
Thankful for the precious time I was able to spend in prayer and in the Word.
& thankful for understanding the love of Jesus in a new way.
**I’m healthy now- PRAISE THE LORD
