Today was great- connections were made, ministry planned out, soccer played, Bible stories told!

Our “Secret Garden” entrance to the soccer field.

Soccer and Bible stories with the street kids this afternoon.

Helping people is great; millions of people around the world need clean water, nutritious food, shelter, and education. I am thrilled to be able to dedicate every day, all day, for 11 months to helping people.

Today was awesome but, on days like today, I need to remind myself why I’m here.

Days like today, when you realize you are falling in love, thousands of miles away from home, with some street kids- knowing you’re leaving them in 3 weeks.

Days like today, when you struggle to keep your heart open even though the homesickness hurts so bad you can’t breathe.

Before I left the States, I thought a lot about my “why.”
Why am I going overseas for 11 months?

Today, I found myself asking the same question- why am I here?

I’m not here because I wanted to teach English in Southeast Asia.
I’m not here because I wanted to fill in the foundation of a guest home in the bush in Zimbabwe.
I’m not here because I knew the street kids in Zambia wanted someone to connect with.

“Picture me! Picture me! Picture me!”

All of those experiences are precious to me, but that’s not why I’m here. I enjoy helping people, but that’s not why I’m here (you can help people ANYWHERE, including in my own town).

I’m here because Jesus told me to go.
Go, because the Kingdom of God is near.
Go, because I’m sending you.

Conversely, I’m not dipping out right now and booking a flight home because Jesus has told me to stay

My Race may be hitting the mid-point this month, but this journey God has me on is far from being done.
