Today we woke up with a plan.
Literally, no part of our day went according to our plan.
Isn’t it awesome when God does that?
Our friend Lenard told us about a soccer field a former World Race team built and our plan for the day was to go find it and play some soccer with the local kids. Since the kids get out of school in the late afternoon, we thought we would head out to try to find the field around 2.
There were a few hiccups as we tried to leave but we were all finally able to head out around 3… and then it began to pour. We quickly realized there wouldn’t be any kids playing at the field during the rain, even if we were able to find the field.
A little frustrated, we met together to regroup and figure out what’s next. It was decided we would push our soccer field scavenger hunt to another day. We, somewhat absentmindedly, realized we needed to go pick up our laundry that we had dropped off early this morning. The shop closed in an hour so we decided to walk the half-mile, visit the nearby fresh market to make/build on some connections, and pick up our laundry.
We were almost to the laundry shop when three “street kids” stopped us. What followed is sure to be one of my favorite memories of the Race. We were able to spend quite a while in conversation with the boys. They were curious about how we “heard from Jesus” to come to Zambia so Erinn modeled talking to God with a simple prayer. Kayla then read from her Bible, explaining that we can hear from God through His Word. The boys really warmed up to us and we made plans to hang out tomorrow afternoon!
The moral of the story: Our plans are nothing compared to God’s. Literally, everything we had planned to do today fell through or ended up completely different than we expected… but we ended up in the perfect spot at just the right time to make some awesome connections! I am stoked to see how our time with the boys goes tomorrow!
See you tomorrow,
L
P.S. I was outside with the vendors/taxi drivers when it began to rain lightly earlier this afternoon. The vendors quickly gathered their things to go find shelter. The rain doesn’t bother me so I was slowly making my way back to the hostel. A tall, older gentleman was rushing past me when he stopped short, looked me in the eye and said, as if concerned for my safety, “The rains are coming, madam!” It was a perfect, funny moment in the middle of the crazy. I love God’s timing!
P.P.S I love making dinner with my team! Yay pictures of daily life! Pasta Night! Yum Yum!
