To My Kids,
I’m finally in AFRICA!!!! I’m so excited to be here! I haven’t gotten to see any giraffes yet but I did get to see a lot of monkeys on the bus ride! Oh, and it was a crazy bus ride. We had to spend 3 nights and 4 days on the same bus with no bathroom on it and no air-conditioning and lots of cramped people! It was so hard but we are finally where my team will be staying.
I really like the family we are staying with in Malawi. Their daughter Michelle, who is 7, loves Hannah Montana! And we can watch it here in English! I’m so happy that this family speaks English because in the mountains they only speak an African language.
It’s a very nice house. It’s got a beautiful yard, an empty swimming pool, and a garden. I have my own bed too! I only have to stay in my tent when we go out to the mountains every weekend. We have church services for people who don’t have any church to go to. LOTS of people come. The first one we had 400 people came!
That is my ministry for the month. We head to the mountains for 3 days at a time and run different churches for all of the remote villages. We meet lots of people and lots of kids! They love music and dancing here. Some people just stare at us because they have never seen a white person before. It’s amazing and lots of people come to know Jesus as their personal Lord and Savior!
All of the people here are very kind and giving. Loma, the women we live with made us a food called seama. It’s kind of like oatmeal you eat with your fingers. Everyone in Malawi eats it and they always eat it with their hands. I like that part!
It’s hot with lots of sunshine here! It makes me laugh because I know that you will be getting lots of snow soon! We sleep under mosquitoes nets so we are protected by all of the flies and big bugs. I love having the windows open and letting all of the fresh air come in while I rest.
How are you doing all the way back there in New York? Please write me a message! I love to hear from back home!
Love Laura and Rain the Reindeer
