Introducing Guatchupita and The Shauls

I have personally fallen in love with this country and its people! I’ve been so blessed to be here for this past month and it’s sad for me to leave. Here is information about the ministry I worked with in the Dominican Republic.

Each country has its struggles and needs, some more apparent then others. This is a realization I notice everyday as I walk the 30 minutes from my home to our ministry site of Guatchupita. I was blessed to live with 27 other World Racers in a large house in the nicest area of San Juan De Maguana. Thank you God for the blessing of a fridge, washer, dryer and electricity… oh and who can forget the amazing joy I find in plumbing now!

Yet, as we walk you see the houses get more and more dilapidated, worn, broken and small. Until you end up in Guatchupita where they live in shacks with squatty potties, very little electricity and none of the other comforts I’ve so greatly enjoyed.

It’s a huge difference in a very short distance. I’ve truly fallen in love with Guatchupita, the people are incredible and the children have shown me great love. God has placed Guatchupita, the slums of San Juan, on my heart as well as the amazing missionaries that live and work here.

Introducing (drum roll)…

THE SHAULS Miguel , Kristen, Teeka (age 2) and Nicol (1 month)

They have been living here for 5 years and have started from the ground up. They have huge hearts for the people of Guatchupita and the people love them. Miguel and Kristen are Adventures In Missions missionaries who live in San Juan full time and are raising their 2 beautiful daughters here, Samantha (aka Teeka) and Nicol.

Miguel works specifically with community development, and outreach. They lead us in digging the canal the last 2 months that P Squad was here. Kristen works with a clinic that reaches out to malnourished children ages 0-5 years and gets their mothers food, formula and basic medical care.

They also have started a discipleship and missionary training program 7 months ago for teens and twenty something’s raising them up as missionaries to their own country. It’s called “Amanece Dominicano”- Dominican Rising in English. Their top field staff, Ronnie, has done a great job leading their 8 students into a lifestyle of radical CHRIST following.

I’ve met these youth and they are incredible men and woman of God.

Oh, and Miguel pastors a house church in Guatchupita too, since he’s not busy enough, lol! They are an amazing family and I’m honored to know them.
