It’s been an AMAZING month of ministry here in San Juan De Manguana, DR! God is doing wonderful things here! Our contacts, Miguel and Kristen, and Tika and Nichole, their daughters, are a beautiful family with a huge heart for this country. Sometimes I feel like knowing them is like knowing a celebrity! They are respected by the people and welcomed into many homes.

We have been working in the “slums” of San Juan Guatupita (though I may be spelling that wrong!) It is the poorest section of the city and I feel it’s the most beautiful. Not only because of the mountains surounding it but the people. They are welcoming, kind and willing to share their lives and stories with us.

We have been splitting into 2 groups for the morning work, half do children’s ministry and VBS, the other half (me) works on digging a canel to stop the homes from getting flooded.

Then after an afternoon siesta, we head back (it’s a half hour walk there and back so we walk quite a few miles a week!). This time we split up into small groups with our tranlators, Frank, Juan Carlos and Vanessa, and visit people’s homes.

My favorite people to visit in Guatupita are Megeso and Ricardo who are both older men who have been through a lot and you can see it on their weathered faces. But in all of it, they smile and have hope that God will provide. They are pillers in their community and have a heart to see the next generation take charge. Their faith is incredible.

More to come, one week left of month 2, then off to Ireland and Eastern Europe!
