Concrete Slipe&slide & 5 buses

On our last day in Haiti we had the 2 other Haiti teams join us in Port-au-Prince where my team, and team crash, had been staying. We all visited then ate dinner. I volunteered to do the dishes and Jake helped. It’s a concrete sink with a huge, live palm tree growing in the center. It’s located in an open area of the house, no real walls, no roof. As we were doing the dishes the largest, most fierce thunderstorm we had in Haiti rolled in- and poured down on me and Jake, I was DRENCHED by the time I was done with the dishes. I was pretty cranky and longed for dry clothes and a movie on my ipod but God told me to go with Jake and play in the rain. Praise God I did because it turned out to be one of my favorite things we did at the house. We played on the balconies and made our own concrete version of a slope and slide out of the slightly tilted balcony floor. I have bruised knees now but it was totally worth it. (Kids, DO NOT try that!) I played in the rain for an hour, laughing and praising God (I even washed my hair). Then Jake, Robby and I went across the street and ran around in the clay and mud of the soccer field. It was amazing.

I could not fall asleep because of all the tons of noise so after very little sleep we rolled out of Port-au-Prince at 5;30am and started a long travel day. It’s 9pm right now and we are still driving, what’s different is that we are on our 5TH bus on the day! That’s right, you know you’re a World Racer when it takes you 5 buses to get from point A to Point B. We went from a school bus to a beautiful, bus that had leg room, a bathroom, lunch, water, sprite… it was a huge blessing! We were supposed to be on that bus for 6 hours but after hour 4 the bus shut down as we were going up a hill. Everyone had to get out and walk up the hill!

Then another bus had to come and we had to move into that bus. Well, that bus wasn’t as nice but it did have a TV playing 2 full length movies in ENGLISH!!! AAAHHH, I freaked out with joy! (I’m a movie personJ ) 2 hours turned into 4 and we were told we missed our next bus connection. Once we finally arrived at the Santo Domingo bus stop we switched to another bus- we were on that one for 20 minutes then switched to our last bus. Our group was too large to fit into one of these small buses so Emily, our DR contact, got us 2!!! We split up and I… drum roll… have my OWN seat!! When is that ever going to happen again on the race?! God is a God who provides and brings joy and laughter to every situation!

The last bus ride is supposed to last 3 hours, we will see how long it really takes, lol! We will be in San Juan, Dominican Republic this month and will be living with the 3 other D.R. teams. Next month we will meet up with our whole squad in Ireland for the Awakening Conference. Please keep us in prayer and stay updated as we find out this months main ministries in the next 2 days!
