Bonjour Kids!!

Hello from Haiti! I’m sorry that I haven’t written in a long time. I’ve been very busy with the kids here in Port-au-Prince, Haiti. But let me start from the beginning… We flew from New York to Florida and had to spend the night in the airport! Can you believe that? Who ever thought a reindeer would sleep in an airport?!

In the morning Laura and I flew with the rest of the squad to Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic. We spent 5 days there learning about the cultures of the D.R. and Haiti, getting to know our teams better, making a video, going to classes and worshipping. It was a lot of fun!

On July 9th we took a 6 hour drive from the Dominican Republic to where we are staying in Fontamara, Port-au-Prince, Haiti. We stay at a pastor’s house with the 30 people that live here and 13 other World Racers! There are 6 kids who live here, 5 are orphans. You would love these kids, they are amazing, just like you!

Most of the people in Haiti speak French and Creole, it’s hard to talk to them but we love to go pray for people, tell them about God’s love and play a lot!

This is what we do during our ministry times-
We teach English at the local school.
Speak at church.
Run medical clinics.
Play with LOTS of kids in the tent cities.
Go on prayer walks.
And more!

What is a tent city?
When the earthquake hit on January 12th a lot of people lost their homes and everything they own. Their houses are now just piles of rubble and concrete and it left many people  homeless, which means they don’t have anywhere to live.  That is when the tent cities were built. People cleared out large pieces of land and built “tents. A tent house is built by taking four wooden poles and wrapping a large tarp around them to make four walls, then putting a tarp on top to make a roof. 3 tent houses could fit into the children’s church room at Love Joy.  2,500 people live in the tent city I go to and they all squeeze into 1,000 tent houses. These houses are not very sturdy but it is all that the people have. They do not have plumbing, good drinking water, kitchens, bedrooms, or even toilets, NOTHING. They are very poor and need lots of prayer so please pray for them today before you go to sleep.

I will miss Haiti, Laura will too. We love it here but God is calling us to go to the Dominican Republic to help kids there too so next week we all move to the Dominican Republic!!

Keep praying for us, we love you and miss you!

Xoxo, Rain the Reindeer
