So, I knew that this trip would cause me to remove myself from the things that make me comfortable and the things that make my life easy, but I did not realize that challenge would come this soon. When I tell you that karaoke in the Philippines is favorite next to rice, I’m not lying… and they do love their rice. On Sunday afternoon, we had a little free time which we spent at the mall, and of course, the Filipinos took us directly to the arcade that contained, well a karaoke setup, complete with stage and mic. Of course, my team has already discovered that I have a bit of talent in the vocal area and decided that I needed to express that in the arcade of a Filipino mall in front of a bunch of random listeners. Needless to say, I was afraid and did not want to sing because of course, I hate karaoke…

To make a long story short, I ended up singing, dare I say belting, Kelly Clarkson, yes in the middle of a mall… No part of me wanted to, but I did because this is, after all, strangely important and exciting to the people who I am working with.

This week we have been doing morning devotions for our contacts, ICM, and it has been such fun. I was scheduled for worship on Tuesday and got to ICM all ready for my turn to lead foreign people into worship. Upon arriving, I was told that there was no guitar, and it was left up to me to “figure it out.” That morning, I ended up leading my teammates and the ICM staff in acapella worship. To say I have enjoyed this week of impromptu worship and speaking to people who I am sure did not understand me is a huge understatement. I am already sad to leave these sweet, hospitable, sincere people…
