Hello from Cape Town, South Africa!
My team and I have officially been here 2 weeks and I have struggled to write a blog thinking that it needs to be some eloquent story or life changing lesson, but my teammates have encouraged me that that is not the case so here it goes!
These last two weeks have felt both extremely long and in the hindsight very fast as we are now on our last week here before heading to debrief in Durban. We have had the privilege of going around to different local high schools (and one primary school) to teach lessons about things such as our identity in Christ, acceptance, temptations, and priorities. We’ve spent long days going class to class teaching the same lesson over and over until we have gotten to as many classes as we can before the school day is over, as well as leading assembly to multiple grades at a time.
I had forgotten how intimidating those high school halls and classrooms can be, especially when public speaking is not your forte! I was nervous for the public speaking, but also struggled with feeling like I was not adequate enough to get up and teach about the Lord, and suddenly began to question what my own testimony even is.
I am so proud to say that even in the last two weeks, I have seen so much growth in everyone on my team, including myself. I am learning to get up and speak trusting that the Lord will guide me and provide the words I need to say. I am learning that this definitely will not be a comfortable journey-this is a stretching journey of growth. I am learning that when you say yes to God that there is no period after it-you are saying yes to being uncomfortable and stepping out in that will full faith that the Lord will guide you instal growth in you. I am working on finding my voice and breaking out of my shell.
I will miss our amazing host, John, and his family when we leave here in a week, but I am excited to see what Botswana has in store for WOP!
