I have officially proclaimed myself the worlds greatest daughter. This statement is supported by that fact that for my dads birthday I got him 5 entries to be in the next star wars movie and for fathers day I did the same (Thats a total of 10). We are big Star Wars people so what better than a chance to be in a movie, plus, if he doesn’t win kids get clean water.
It’s fathers day, so i felt as though I needed to share about my support team and that is largely my dad. Now my dad was the first person I told when i applied for the race and his response was, “When are you going to grow up and be an adult.” Okay so yes this seems harsh, however, he was half having a dry sense of humour and half thinking about my future. So really he is great.
Now my dad and I have not had a great time of things only because I was a very emotional teenager and person in general and my poor father had to raise two teenage girls after mom passed. Our family had a lot of hard days following and there were moments that I felt like an orphan. No my fathers not perfect but he always did his best. He’s the first one to bail you out of situations, call school so you don’t have to go, punish you, love you and push you to be a success.
We have a weird relationship filled with laughter, annoyance, fighting, mutual respect and love. My earthy father has done all he can to point me in the direction of my heavenly father. God is full of so much love and grace, and i have so much to learn from that example Jesus set for me. We are all Abba’s children. When Jesus prayed “Our father in Heaven” the meaning of the word father is Abba, and this means daddy. When I think of Daddy i think of being excited to see him after a longs days work, or being terrified of snakes and running into his arms. When Jesus calls God Abba it was a big deal before this time having intimacy with God was not a common thing and in order to be near God you had to be cleansed priest. There were ceremonies and process that took place before you could enter the presence of God.
Today we have such easy access to God and the freedom to be intimate with His heart. Just as my dad loves me, teaches, punishes and laughs with me, so does God. We have the greatest father waiting for us to act. Being intimate with God gives me the ability to be Gods beloved and this makes me into my true self. There is no other place I’d rather be than in the arms of my abba father.
“Define yourself radically as one beloved by God. This is the true self. Every other identity is illusion.”
