We arrived in Darwin, Australia on October 1. We were greeted by Isabel Gawler, a soft spoken woman of God. We loaded up luggage for 14 people into the back of the troop carrier and we all climbed into the church van. It was a short 10 minute drive to Isabel & David’s home. The accommodations are lovely! We are blessed with a full kitchen and beds/sleeping pads for all of the girls (the boys are camping outside in tents/hammocks). The house has AC, an indoor shower, dry western toilet and a washing machine, so we should all smell fairly well this month. The room has a TV and we watched our first movie as a team, The Book of Eli.
The house is 1.26 miles from the beach! It is a beautiful beach filled with numerous unbroken baby sand dollars and hundreds of soldier crabs, hermit crabs, sea slugs and other marine life. October ushered in box jellyfish season, and many are microscopic, so there will be no swimming in the ocean for us this month. We have yet to see a crocodile in the ocean, but we probably will before the month is over.
We are working with another team this month, and I was blessed beyond words to learn one of them, Zach Curtis, had brought along Settlers of Catan! I love playing games, and it’s awesome to have fun times with my WR family that remind me of friends back home. We have already played 3 times. Hi, my name is Laura, and I’m a Catanaholic. J
Thank you all for your patience and understanding in getting my blog updated. Finding/making time to blog and then dealing with slow internet connection and computer issues when updating the blog makes for a somewhat tedious and laborious task. I will work on being more intentional about blogging on a more regular basis. I love you and miss you. Thank you for your prayers! Sometimes I have to just stop and say, I am in Australia! I am on the World Race! How am I so blessed to be living my dream?! There is no place I’d rather be than exactly in God’s will, resting in the arms of Christ. I was made for this!
