15 days ago, I had no idea who Ray Bradbury was.
15 days ago, I was boarding a flight in Atlanta with one thought repetitively running through my mind:
"God, I don't know if I'm I'm ready for this. Lord, I'm not sure if I can do this"
15 days ago, I sat down in Seat 24A and opened the magazine in front of me.
It featured five articles written by five different men and women who had recently embarked upon a journey of their own.
It seemed relevant.
So, I read.
And I came across that quote.
And in that moment, I knew that I would be ok.
It's funny, God has been speaking things like this over me for a while now, via different forms of communication.
For example, there is a line in one of Gavin DeGraw's song ("Meaning") that I sang for weeks on end:
“Mounting the trail, but you got in sight. Sometimes, our only way jumping; I hope you’re not afraid of heights.”
The last one that stands out is a FAQ I found on the Project Searchlight website: What if I'm not ready??
The Response??
"Welcome to the club. Go for it anyway! By the time you’re ready, the opportunity may be gone. It’s more about the willingness to do something than it is how ready you are to do it. New things will almost always feel uncomfortable.
It’s not about being ready. It’s about being willing!"
So, with that, here I am, 15 days later, sitting on a bed in BEAUTIFUL Santa Cruz del Quiche, Guatemala and at times still wondering how the heck this got to be my life right now. And to be honest, some days, it still doesn't feel real.
But I am here. And God is good. And He is moving. In me. In my Squad. And in the lives of the men at the prison that my team has the distinct honor and privilege of working at in this month.
