So far my time in Nepal has been amazing and I’m loving the cooler weather, distant ice-capped mountains, and the rich culture. This month we have done our regular house visits, which can consist of fellowship, worship, prayer, and a Word of the Lord. We have also been giving mini sermons at several local churches to the leaders. Today we just finished working with the local youth, playing games, sharing testimonies and attempting to teach guitar. It’s disheartening to see a lack of leadership among the men in Nepal as work or just lack of interest seems to keep them from the church. This week we did get the privileged of enjoying a nice church picnic with just the men. I went into this picnic with the idea of a typical U.S. lunch picnic that would last 2-3 hours with a good BBQ. However, like so many other times on the race, what I expected was far from the truth. For starters we left for the picnic at 7AM and didn’t return till 9PM. We had breakfast, lunch and dinner that day! The food was amazing with an assortment of chickpeas, boiled egg, dried rice chips, soy beans, water buffalo, pork fat and of course baht (rice). Between meals we hiked up in the Himalayas visited the usual dark Hindu temple and returned for lunch and a leadership meeting in which we shared about the world race and what we do… (pretty much anything and everything related to Jesus). Of all things to finish the picnic the men always have a traditional dance time… Not really my thing… but I took part for culture. It was definitely a great day to experience part of the culture and share what God has put in our hearts.
Nepal has been amazing for so many reasons but I can’t look past the ability to share the gospel freely in Nepal. We don’t have to worry about imprisonment, damaging our long term contacts ministry or being deported! It is a truly a blessing that is always overlooked. That’s about all from Nepal… I preach this Saturday to a large church (Don’t know what that means). Other than that, I play cricket with the local kids every day. Sri Lanka won the world cup this month. Tomorrow we are visiting family members and working with younger kids at a different church.
Prayer Requests:
- Teams health (stomach)… Eating ½ off pastries after 9PM might not always be the best idea
- I preach Saturday
- For Churches in Kathmandu to be encouraged, strengthened and that God would continue to bring more locals to help and truly join the Church
P.S. I’ve tried to upload a photo for an hour now…sry you can add me on Fbook Kyle owen Teders
