Have you ever just stopped to think about something as simple as the color green? Or looked at a rainy day and said to yourself ‘what a great day it is’?  I find that the people who make me smile the most, are the people who smile the most themselves. The people who see beautiful things around them and are thankful are the sort of people who also inspire and uplift everyone around them. I see lots of people who always complain about things. If its winter they will complain about the cold, in summer they complain about the heat, if it’s raining than its too wet but if its sunny out its too dry. These people have forgotten how truly blessed they actually are.

     When I look around, I notice things that I think other people miss sometimes, or have forgotten. Things like the beautiful sound of an old instrument, or the relaxed feeling when looking at a green forest, or the cozy dampness of a rainy day. We are entrapped in a wonderland of blessings yet we rarely notice them. Even if we do not have anything we usually call ‘The American Dream’, when we notice we are surrounded by so many wonderful things it seems weird to have so many complaints. I find that when I notice these wonderful things the bigger things God has blessed me with become even more amazing. I recently checked my emails and saw that someone had donated a rather large amount. I then thought of all the other people who had given with such incredible generosity and I smiled so much that my whole face was sore the rest of the day. God is so fantastic! When I think of all he has blessed me and my family with, any complaint I have disappears.

Oh come, let us sing to the Lord;
    let us make a joyful noise to the rock of our salvation!
Let us come into his presence with thanksgiving;
    let us make a joyful noise to him with songs of praise!
For the Lord is a great God,
    and a great King above all gods.
In his hand are the depths of the earth;
    the heights of the mountains are his also.
The sea is his, for he made it,
    and his hands formed the dry land.

Psalms 95:1-5

     Here is the chorus one of my favorite songs by Rich Mullins called The Color Green:

“Be praised for all Your tenderness by these works of Your hands Suns that rise and rains that fall to bless and bring to life Your land Look down upon this winter wheat and be glad that You have made Blue for the sky and the color green that fills these fields with praise”
