** pictures at bottom of post, have nothing to do with blog, but overdue for posting some pictures, if you want to skip to the bottom.
So its official, my alma mater and childhood
favorite football team, Auburn University won its second ever National
Championship. I have been an Auburn fan
for as long as I can remember as both my parents attended school there. I only applied to one university and had no
doubts I would be an Auburn student. I
loved my time in Auburn; I love everything about Auburn including our football
team. Being away from Auburn during this
amazing season has certainly been difficult.
However, fortunately I was able to watch most of the national
championship game.
So
the game which started at 7:30 PM Central time Monday night would begin at 8:30
AM here in Cambodia. My team, knowing
the importance of the game, offered to cover my classes for me that day (Alex
is an experienced substitute teacher) so I was able to go into Phnom Penh. After driving around town on Saturday, I had
found a bar that would show the game.
Tyler Samuelson and his team planned on meeting up with me to watch the
game at the bar. I order a tuk tuk
(motorcycle pulling a carriage) for 7 AM, it is about a 45 minute drive to town
but I want to give myself some extra time.
Of course the tuk tuk has problems and the driver gets lost so I don’t
get to the bar until 5 minutes into the game only to find out that the bar was
not showing the game. Tyler Samuelson is
struggling with the wi fi so we are basically just receiving updates not able
to watch any of the game. Tyler informs
me that they have espn back at their house so we hurry up and head back. I finally get in front of a TV with about 6
minutes left in the 2nd qtr.
We are down 11-7, and I make it in time to see us take the lead at
14-11. As you may know, Auburn goes on
to win the game on a game winning field goal 22-19.
Once
I finally got in front of the tv the whole set up was great. I was able to skype my family at halftime and
after the game, and was able to skype some friends in Auburn during
halftime. All the guys from Tyler’s team
were fun to watch the game with, and the game was a great game made better by
Auburn coming out on top. I’ve had many
times this season when I really just wish I could be back in Auburn enjoying
college and football once again.
However, I can truly say as the game ended and the joy of winning the
national championship certainly came, I was very happy to be overseas serving
the Lord. There was a peace that I’m
exactly where God wants me to be. I
can’t say I always feel this way.
Especially in the most recent days where teaching English has certainly
been testing my patience and Cambodians blare music at 4 AM. But I am truly thankful that I am able to
serve the Lord and grow to know him more.
I’m also thankful that the Auburn Tigers are national champions. War Eagle!
Here’s some pictures, if you make it all the way down here.
