Real Life Training Camp: Day 2

Day two of Real Life training with the 9 team leaders! I spent the day doing one of two things:

preparing supplies (books, t-shirts, paint, name tags, flags, etc.) for all participants to arrive tomorrow
or
sitting in on the sessions of training leaders on various topics.

As previously mentioned I would LOVE to hear your questions in order to answer them on following blogs. One question asked yesterday was: “What exactly does a training camp with Adventures in Missions look like?” The hope is that over the course of the next 5 days you will learn the answer, but here is a general overview.

Each training camp looks a little different depending on what program (Real Life, World Race, Ambassadors) it is for. This is a Real Life trip (for more trip info click HERE!) So the team leaders are here a few days before their teams in order to get some additional leadership training. In general with leaders and all participants there are various times of worship, teachings, and activities designed to give them tools they will need on the field. I won’t go into TOO much detail now because the hope is that you will keep reading each day that training camp is happening!!!!

Thank you to all who submitted questions! I LOVE the idea of making this blog interactive!!! Please continue to submit questions! Here are today’s responses:

Q: What’s your favorite food overseas?
A: I think I confidently can say that my favorite food from around the globe was chapati in Africa. For those of you who don’t know, it’s a delicious sort of doughy cross between a tortilla and pita. It’s SOOO good! Here’s what it looks like:

Q: What is your favorite desk item?
A: Currently I think my favorite thing at my (temporary) desk is……..my transparent purple clipboard! Yeah nerdy, I know, but it has come in REAL handy (literally) as my mobile desk for keeping up with the schedule and taking down my observations of training!
Q: is there any natural light coming into the office?
A: Yes. From where I’m seated can I see/enjoy it? Sure can’t. =/

Q: Are there real plants or fake plants?
A: No plants in sight.

Q: if it gets too hot, if you say “whooo” will someone turn the air conditioner on?
A: If it gets too hot I will bask in all the glory that is warmth. Georgia is REAL cold right now! I can hardly squeak out a “whooo” through my chattering teeth!
Q: How long of a drive is it from your apartment to work (when it is not a snow storm)?
A: It is about a 20 min. drive. However for me it is a 20 minute RIDE since I don’t have a vehicle!

Q: What type of stuff do you do when there are not people there to be trained?
A: I have a variety of responsibilities including (but not limited to): brainstorming/developing/improving our current format and execution of all training camps, overseeing and contributing to the development of the Recruitment Team, assisting with Real Life and World Race interviews, and continually being invested in P Squad while they are still on the field.

Q: How many meeting do you attend in the average week?

A: I have been in the office for 2 days now and have been in about 3 meetings so far. Although there have not been a lot of meetings I have had about 12 hours days! I’m sure I’ll have a much more accurate idea of what my “weekly average” will be once I’m here a full week when there is not a training camp happening!

Q: What do you do for fun in Georgia?
A: I have yet to find out! Although I like to think that anywhere I go fun breaks out. =)

Q: You were praying for the snow weren’t you?
A: I was praying for snow when I was in Michigan, NOT Georgia! Funny God!

KEEP THE QUESTIONS COMING!!!!!!!!!!!
