I ate WAY too much on Christmas. Generally speaking I am usually quite conscious about what and how much I eat, but man the holidays sure did a number on my regular intake. (This is not the overly dramatic weight diary of an
insecure-about-her-image 26-year-old, I promise! Keep reading to get the
point!)

There is a mirror above the sink in our bathroom, so you always have the opportunity to check yourself out as you come and go. Christmas Day I made my way into the bathroom, and decided to take a minute to, well you know, check myself out. I was expecting to see the “damage” from a day of overeating, but was pleasantly surprised. I looked the same as the day before. No extreme cookie love-handles. No potato-chip-induced double chins. No visible difference. And so I got to thinking how this could be…..and this came to mind:

…whatever one sows, that will he also reap…
–Galatians 6:7b

Turns out I had worked out pretty consistently for the days and weeks prior to Christmas. The image I was looking at in the mirror Christmas Day was the result of those days and weeks. As with anything that we invest in, we do not always see the results right away. I realized that I might not see the result of my overeating right then, but it didn’t mean I might not see it later.

And so I began to think about this on a bigger scale. What if I really started thinking that way about EVERYTHING? What if I was more conscious about where I invested my time, energy, and money?

I think our natural inclination is to see our world through a nearsighted lens. We only focus on what is close and lack the ability to see far. Maybe we carry this handicap so that we have to choose to trust God with what we do not see clearly. Whatever the case, I do know that we WILL reap what we sow.

And so I choose to sow into my generation. I choose to invest my time, my energy, my LIFE to equip and empower my generation to walk in their identities as sons and daughters of the King. This is the God I serve:

For as the earth brings forth its sprouts,

and as a garden causes what is sown in it to sprout up,

so the Lord GOD will cause righteousness and praise

to sprout up before all the nations.
 –Isaiah 61:11

AMEN!

Please consider sowing into the empowerment of this generation through supporting me in one of the following ways:
