When I was little my mom would make these sheets of paper that slightly resembled a calender filled in with a variety of types of literature. Each of my siblings and I had our own sheet and would get to choose what type of book, magazine, or story that we would like to read. Upon completing our selected reading, Mom would fill in the square (usually with marker) and we would choose our next piece to read. As you may be guessing, similar to bingo, we would recieve some sort of award for completing rows and eventually the whole sheet. As you may not be guessing, I was fairly terrible at completing these sheets because I didn’t really like reading much.

Well, at the ripe ole age of 24 and 5/6 I still do not particularly enjoy reading HOWEVER, occassionally something magically spurs me on to read a random book or two. The latest book to actually make it through the whole process to completion was The Shack. We started reading it as a team in China, however upon finishing out our month we never really came back to it and now the chances of a Team Transformers reunion for the sake of completing a book seems ridiculous. SO, I decided to finish it myself…..yesterday. Yep, 2 1/2 months later. That gives you a little more insight into why I was terrible at the reading game when I was little.

So, basically this is a plug for reading The Shack. The sheer fact that I finished the book should be indicative that its good seeing as I don’t waste my time finishing terrible ones. If you enjoy an easy read that provokes mind expansion and breaks through the walls you’ve placed in your brain, probably without even noticing, then you should check it out. It’s a good reminder that God doesn’t put on a Sunday suit and meet you for a service each week. He’s a loving daddy with nothing but the best intentions for you, even if that means letting you learn some things the hard way. He also meets us where we are. Even when we’re stranded in mud, he picks us up and kisses us on the cheek. If that’s not the picture of God you have in your heart, it’s about time you read some books. Maybe start with The Bible and see where that takes you………..then check out The Shack.
