Our first week in Uganda was admittedly my hardest
week on The World Race thus far. Yeah, we were living rustically in our tents
and bathing out of buckets. True, we were preparing our own meals and
establishing our own ministry. Yep, our team was different due to the
adjustments made for the month. However, none of these circumstances was the
culprit of my difficulties.
Retrospectively, the root for my struggles was myself. I had
a terrible attitude, which was slowly poisoning every moment of each of my
days. The only way I was able to break the cycle was to step outside of myself
and have a look.
One of the greatest weapons the Devil uses against us is ourselves.
We so easily allow him to creep into our minds and run wild leading to
corrupted, selfish outlooks. Fortunately by God’s grace he enables us to house
his Spirit within us, which serves as the only offense against the Devil’s
antics.
As a group we realized that we all had terrible attitudes,
which was slowly leading us to self-destruction. We established a “no
complaining” rule and recognized our need to choose joy each day. Almost
immediately upon having that group discussion the mood shifted. We were still
living rustically, bathing out of buckets, preparing our own meals, establishing
our ministry, and our team was still different. Absolutely nothing changed,
except our attitudes, which made a world of difference.
Shockingly, (or not so shockingly) our attitudes can make or
break each day. So, the ongoing lesson continues…Let’s choose JOY!!!!!!!
