Location: Gulu, Uganda
And we’re off! Month two in Africa is underway and we are
rockin’ Uganda. Our team will be working with Team Hephzibah near Gulu. The
area we will be working in is recovering from years of war. It is the location
where the documentary “Invisible Children” about child soldiers was filmed (I
recommend Googling it for more info). The community is in need of restoration
and being rebuild. We will be working to help rebuild communities and restore
relationship between neighbors. The area is heavy laden with fear, anger,
oppression, and bitterness. It will certainly be a spiritually intense area to
minister in.
Despite the sad story of the Gulu community and the
potential hardships, I am excited to serve there. Taking this opportunity to communicate
hope to these people will be amazing. I know that there will be many needs
presented along the way, however I can confidently say that we will be striving
to meet the most crucial need these people have by communicating Jesus’ love
for them.
In the (paraphrased) words of a fellow squadmate: If God
wanted to meet their finacial needs, he would have sent an economist. And if
God wanted to meet their needs of laughter, he would have sent an entertainer.
But God wants to meet their spiritual needs, so he sent a missionary.
