Usually I love to talk, and am always willing to share stories and experiences of my own, but of course, the moment I’m asked to talk about myself for this, I can’t seem to think of what to say. Well, here goes nothing…
Where I come from:
I was born and raised in the great state of Michigan. I grew up in a pretty fantastic place, where if you drive ten minutes in any direction you will find a swimable body of water. I also spent a few years of my life living in a log cabin that my dad built that didn’t have running water or electricity. It was awesome! Since then he has upgraded to a cabin WITH electricity and running water, which is also awesome. There’s no doubt that growing up in Michigan shaped me into to who I am today.
Who I care about:
My parents got divorced when I was about five and then my dad got remarried when I was in 3rd grade. I grew up mostly under my mom’s roof, but spent time with my dad and maintained a good relationship with him and my stepmom, as well as my mom. Since the big merging of families I am happy to say that I have five spectacular siblings and some recent additions of sibling-in-laws. I am number 4 in the order and there are 3 of us lovely ladies and 3 great dudes. Yep, the modern-day Brady Bunch! We’re a wild crew, but love each other very much. My family is super important to me.
Where my time goes:
going on the Race in ’08 I have realized a passion in me to equip and
empower my generation to walk in the freedom and kingdom that God offers
to them. I am extremely passionate about providing them the opportunity
to learn their identities as GOD established them, not the world. I am
SO blessed to be living out this passion by continuing to work with AIM
in Georgia!
Things I love:
This could be a long section! I love to dance. I take ballet, tap, clogging, jazz, lyrical, modern, tumbling, and ballroom. It is so interesting to see how people move in their own ways. I also love the outdoors, especially as related to water. Canoeing, swimming, fishing, boating, tubing, and kayaking are but a few of the things I enjoy in the water. I really like camping, hiking, biking, skiing, snowboarding, and backpacking as well. I’m also a sports fan, but would usually rather be playing than watching. Basketball, volleyball, softball, football, and ultimate frisbee are on top of my list. I have recently rediscovered the joy of reading and frequently incorporate that into my visits to local coffee shops. I also love being barefoot, hot baths, laughing, ice cream, and surprises.
My Jesus:
All my experiences converge to create this person I am right now. I’ve attended many different churches, which I feel has made me a sort of “melting pot” of denominations. I don’t claim one denomination, instead I just claim Jesus. I’ve trained myself to look through the politics and legalism within the church that have distracted me in the past from the core values that drive the body of Christ. I think it’s important to be educated and ask questions, for it’s in these moments that we grow. I like to think I’ve learned a lot in this life so far, but I certainly have a long way to go. I have made mistakes, tried to turn my back on Jesus, and dropped the ball in my walk with God, but despite my deepest efforts I cannot deny that this amazing God who created me, loves me. I think there are few things that are ultimately important in this life, but I know that serving my God tops the list. I am dedicated to a life of service. I think I finally understand what trusting God looks and feels like, and it’s amazing! So, with one giant leap of faith I am heading out to serve… whoever God wants…wherever God wants.
