Hello from Kigali, Rwanda!

After 3 months in Central America,

3 months in southeast Asia,

a flight from Cambodia->Vietnam->Quatar->Uganda,

and a 12-hour bus ride to Rwanda,

we have arrived to our new home for the month.

This starts our 3 month stint in Africa; beginning in Rwanda, Uganda in August, and Kenya in September. Even though we have only been here for 3 days, I feel like I have been here a lifetime. As soon as our plane touched Ugandan soil I was overwhelmed with peace and excitement that this was going to be a good three months. While at Michigan State I took an African Religion class and absolutely loved learning about the history and culture in Africa. While most people who think of Africa think of tribes, lions, and the bush; I know there is a lot more depth than our American imagination. Today a few of us spent the day with a businessman and doctor. Here are a few pictures of our adventure.

We start ministry on Friday by doing door-to-door evangelism (going door to door talking to people about Jesus, helping teach them more about the Bible, and praying) and we have church later on Friday night. Church is on Tuesdays, Fridays and Sundays.

So far, I absolutely love our contact, Pastor James, as well as his wife and three children. He has made his home our home. The people here are incredibly hospitable and while we are here to serve them, I feel like we are being served even greater. Food-wise we have eaten beans, rice, spaghetti, bread, bananas, and enjoyed the best Rwandan tea ever! The languages here are local Rwandan languages, French, and English. To this point we have had no problems with communication and when there was a barrier then we had a translator.

This month we will be doing evangelism, teaching English, loving children, and whatever Pastor James has for us on a daily basis. Pastor James is a solid believer and passionate about the Rwandan people. I am really excited to do evangelism along side Pastor James because it is by evangelism that I came to know Jesus back in 2008.

Feel free to pray for good health, opportunities to share about Jesus, and financial support.

My teammate Jessie and I still need a little financial support to stay on the Race. Our funds are due no later than July 14th. Jessie still needs $3,300 and I need $1,500 to stay on the Race.

I won’t have the internet very often this month, but I will try to keep updates coming as best I can!

Dagu-koon-da

(I love you!)
