I love to draw.  Since the time I was a child I’ve enjoyed sketching scenes around me.   I wasn’t always particular on what I drew on (sorry mom and dad!) but I loved seeing favorite memories, treasured toys, and beautiful objects come to life on paper.

I’ve taken a break from drawing over the last few years.  Just busy with work and life.

God has brought it to my attention over the last few weeks, so I decided to start drawing again in the Philippines.  I’ve enjoyed it so much my goal is to have at least 5 drawings per country.  I draw random things, illustrating our journey with scenes that attract my attention.  I wanted to share them with you, to give you glimpses into my world last month and over the next 8 months.  Here’s the first set from the Philippines!

PS My favorite picture?  The last one 🙂

Our first sunrise in the Philippines.  We arrived in Manila at 2:00 am.  With a major case of jet lag, I was up with the sun the next day!  Such a beautiful site to be greeted by.

Our contact’s house.  Jojo was both a friend and our guide to life in the Philippines.  We spent many amazing sunrises sitting on her porch for quiet time before our days started at 7:00 am.

We hiked up the mountain behind our church to meet the locals and get to know the surrounding community.  Here’s a view of one of the mountain houses.

One of the houses in the Mungyan Village.  Some of Mungyan people live in a village around 15 minutes from the church, with the rest scattered through the mountains.  The village was filled with the laughter of children, but also poverty and decay.

Our sunrise hike with the youth!  We went to bed at 1:00 am and started our hike at 4:00 am.  What a night!  It was worth it though to get to spend several hours hiking and talking with the 40 odd kids who came with us.

Here’s my favorite!  A drawing of me scuba diving.  The beaches and water in the Philippines are amazing, but the true beauty lies just beneath the water in the amazing coral and sealife.  I even had the chance to sit on the bottom of the ocean floor and pray.  It was a great way to spend our one day off that week.
