I’m in love with my donations page.
I check it frequently. I enjoy looking at it. It’s fun to scroll down and read over.
Now I know being in love with a webpage may sound silly or shallow, but the page means so much more than just a place to see how much people have donated to support me and the work I’ll be doing.
My donations page tells a story of the beauty and generosity of the people I know, and teaches me about the value of being two coins richer.
My page shows…
- …my first donation. It was from my parents who are mourning a yearlong separation with their eldest daughter, yet still are her strongest supporters.
- …my second donation, from a family who is going through one of the hardest times financially and emotionally someone can, but has been one of my most frequent supporters both with money and encouragement.
- …my first big donation, which both shocked and amazed me. It boosted my courage and showed me how generous people can be.
- …a donation from the elderly mother of a friend who had saved money for years to give towards God’s work and, having heard about my missions from her daughter, sent the money up with her daughter to the US to give to me.
- …Cranes for Kristin money, earned from the 83 cranes my sister has sold so far to support my trip. She has sold them in the heat of a Texas summer, going door-to-door boldly asking strangers to be willing to donate in exchange for an origami crane. Some neighbors give her strange looks, some slam the door in her face, but she keeps going to find the one door with someone kind enough to support both Anna and I. She also carefully made and has been praying for her Etsy site, where people from around the country have bought cranes to support us. (www.cranesforkristin.etsy.com)
- …donations of $1-$5 from children and teenagers, giving me money they have earned from doing chores and mowing lawns. They are donations from people with no steady source of income, no bank account, but given from the heart from money they have worked hard over the summer to earn.
- …support from people I haven’t seen in years, high school friends and college friends.
- …people I’ve never met, friends of my siblings, strangers who have seen my blog on the Facebook pages of others.
My donation page not only shows me the love of those around me, but also the value of every donation.
In Luke 21:1-4 (NIV), a woman made a donation that was recorded for all of time. She gave only two coins, coins small enough to actually be recorded for all of written time as ‘very small copper coins’.
The Bible says:
“As Jesus looked up, he saw the rich putting their gifts into the temple treasury. He also saw a poor widow put in two very small copper coins. “Truly I tell you,” he said, “this poor widow has put in more than all the others. All these people gave their gifts out of their wealth; but she out of her poverty put in all she had to live on.”
These are the donations I see on my account. They are genuine donations given from love and from the heart to support the work God is doing through my travels. From the $1 donations to the $1,000 donations, they encourage me and warm my heart.
God bless all of you for your support. Every cent and every dollar counts.
