This past weekend on our trip to Huamachuco I learned a lot of things and I thought I should share them with you…

(Before the bus ride)
By the way, we looked up our trip on MapQuest and Huamachuco is only about 110 miles from Trujillo…a trip that should've taken closer to 2 hours. The independent film about demon possession, titled Suffering, didn't help the situation any.
2.) DUCK.!!… people in South America on average are shorter than Americans, but the fact that they alter the height of their doorways is hazardous. (I nailed my head about a dozen times before I finally learned.)

3.) Sleeping 9 people in a tiny room is surprisingly comfortable… if you are desperate for warmth and exhausted.

(After the bus ride)

4.) An entire colony of Guinea pigs running around on the kitchen floor does not mean they are pets… they are for dinner! (a.k.a. Cuy)

5.) A dark colored shawl not only keeps you warm, but it also doubles as a backpack/purse for carrying any and everything… from small children to a heap of goods to be sold on the street.

6.) Playing dress up is just as fun at 28 as it was at 8… however, clowns would not usually be my first choice.

7.) Rosy cheeks, from sunburn and wind burn, are precious…

…and wrinkles are beautiful.

8.) Having diarrhea is never fun… especially when you have to use a "squatty-potty"… it doubles as a shower.

(Doing wall squats twice a day has really helped to strengthen my leg muscles though… just in case there's a next time.)
9.) If you don't really want the truth about what's being served for lunch… then don't ask… because it might just be sheep intestines (and as a missionary it is considered rude to not eat the food that someone has so lovingly and unselfishly prepared for you J)

10.) God is able to use us in astounding ways, even if all we do is show up… I was sick and rather exhausted, but the EBDV (a.k.a. VBS) we held in a sardine sized garage church was packed to the brim with kids eager to learn about the love of the one true God that Daniel so obediently served.
