So you probably think you know who you are, most of us do. Think you have dug through all your junk and baggage. Believe you have processed your pains and surrendered to repent. We all do. And maybe you have. But what about when you take yourself out of context? What if you are separated from all those comforts and things you identify with? Are you still the same when you are put into an uncomfortable place or thrown to the wolves?
Because that is where you discover who you are. And if you feel perfectly complete where you are then I encourage you to leave. Challenge yourself. It doesn’t have to be far or wide but I invite you to grow.
Test what you think you know. Let your past creep up and seep out of your pores. It is messy. You probably will not like it. But your faith will deepen and your wings will take you places you didn’t know existed.
See the problem is we all grow up and associate ourselves with labels and lies. We become our hobbies or jobs, the type of people we hang out with, the things we like and dislike. But that really is not an identity at all. And all of these will change and waver through time. As Solomon describes they are meaningless, like chasing the wind. Thankfully God’s love doesn’t ever change, it is unending and always the same.
Over the years we get lost in things that do not matter, and we essentially become them. That is a perfectly easy way to sell yourself short. Being torn out of my typical identity on this mission has shown me that people are almost always stronger then they think. We are all capable of so much more then we strive to be. When you quit allowing who you are to be conceived by the things of this world and build it instead from faith in an almighty Christ, you become unstoppable.
It is easy to settle for less then we deserve, and the enemy loves it. Tragedy is not the only weapon that can keep people down. Imagine a world where nobody ever meets their true potential because they are not only willing, but happily settling for less then God had to offer. What a clever way to stop greatness.
Wake up and walk out. Step away from being the wallflower that never dared to dance. Quit identifying yourself by your accomplishments that will never satisfy your soul. Stop being like everyone else. God made each and everyone of us for boldness. No one is promised another day so quit hesitating. I don’t know who this message is for, but to any of my readers waiting for a sign… let this be it. Go be more then you ever planned on being.
