Getting sick is no fun at all, and getting sick overseas does not make it any better. But it does happen and it does put some things into perspective. I spent my last few days in Kosovo in bed after a trip to the hospital. I am happy to say I am feeling much better now, praise God, but as you can imagine this not only affected my workouts but also my ministry.

During a time like this I pray that you set all your goals and hard work aside to rest. Health is always important but it is essential as a missionary serving as part of a team. Just as a few friendly reminders, make sure you are always consistently drinking enough water and getting enough sleep even when you do feel good. This can prevent a lot of illness and dehydration, which is more common then it should be. Once you are feeling better slowly start up your routine again. The key word here is slowly. I used my entire debrief between countries to relax, which is not exactly what I had in mind.

I am currently at all squad month in Albania and there is always a way to be active since all the teams are together. There are tons of options that vary from yoga to a 6 a.m. running crew, so make sure to take advantage of this time. I recommend trying something new as much as you can while you can, you only get one all squad month! Being surrounded by tons of crazy racers is probably the best time to  make a fool of yourself doing zumba or the likes. The best part is you will most likely laugh with some new people and build stronger relationships along the way.

That is another thing I love about living a healthy lifestyle, there is such a great opportunity for fellowship along the way. It is a perfect time to encourage those around you too. Help someone reach a goal or find a friend that can push you. Never be afraid to change up your routine and keep things fun. You might not have as much time to put in as you would like but the key to staying fit on the race is to be intentional. And yes, you might have to get up before the sun to get your sweat on.

So stay healthy first then sweat on brothers and sisters, strong bodies make for strong minds.
