Just a little update to let everyone know how the last week
has been.
First on Friday we were told that on Saturday we had to be
out of the house that we were staying in. So Gary and Wendy (our “contact”
inside the community) told us we could stay at their house in a tent they have
set-up for the kids when they run from home. Saturday became our day of rest
and packing day. In the afternoon we left for Gary and Wendy’s – just before
the rain. We found that this tent was not only going to be our home, but also
giant spiders’ homes (there was 9 spiders the size of my hand around the tent
that were killed).
After we killed the spiders and moved our stuff in us had
dinner. It was great to have food that we did not have to buy or make.
After dinner the real rain started and it continued all
night long and so by morning it was impossible to cross the river to get back
to be we were supposes to be for Monday.
The team spent some good time relaxing, playing Wii, getting
internet time, and making jewelry as we waited for the river to go down.
Every few hours on Monday we went to check the river, but it
seemed every time someone checked the level it was back up.
Gary
told us that the river will go down by Tuesday and so be ready by 8am to cross
and leave Wujal Wujal. It was true – the river was down and it was time to
cross and say good-bye to Wujal Wujal.
As we drove away I said a little prayer for the people we
were leaving behind.
Russell for his leadership, and his ability to lead the
community through the radio, for Rachel to be able to trust in God, for Uncle Henry’s
hearing, and his acceptance of change and for
Sam to be able to find time to
focus on God. This community may not have changed too much in the past few
weeks, but I believe that God has His hand in the community and change will
happen.
