I spent the month of May in Tegucigalpa, Honduras serving at Zion’s Gate Ministries. It ended up being one of my favorite months so far. Here are some of the highlights:

-We started off the month with Month 8 debrief which was in the mountains outside of Tegucigalpa. I loved just hanging on the front porches of the little cabins we had and resting. During debrief, I was given the opportunity to step out of leadership and enter into a period of rest. So this was my first month not being a team leader on the race. It has been an adjustment but definitely a blessing.

-All of iSquad was together this month. At first, I thought it was going to be rough living on the same property as 50 other people. It turned out really good. I loved being able to see everyone I’ve gotten close to on our squad and it brought a new sense of unity amongst us as we worked together towards common goals.

-Zion’s Gate is an incredible ministry. It has many different facets including ministry with street boys, community outreach, and so much more. Tony has huge plans for this ministry and I can’t wait to see how God works in it. He reaches out to the outcasts of society.

-Team Yebo spent the majority of the month doing manual labor on the property of Zion’s Gate. I found out it is something I actually enjoy after all. We helped to get the ground ready for new garden beds and for a bunny house.

-I spent a lot of my downtime hanging out with the kids Tony has taken in. The majority of the kids previously lived on the streets of Los Pinos, the most dangerous area of Tegucigalpa. I became closest with Ariel and Amalia whose whole family live on the property.

-My team also had the opportunity to go to Heart of Christ Ministries for a few days. Heart of Christ works with women, girls, and children affected by abuse, incest, and rape. We were able to meet the girls who live with Gracie and Lee. My heart absolutely broke during those few days there. It was hard to hear all of the girls stories and what horrible things happen. I loved dancing with Erica and Ivannia who both have cerebral palsy.

-I got to celebrate my 26th birthday with the entire squad. I felt so extremely loved by those around me.

-We spent 2 days off tenting on the beach. It was so nice to get away and relax on the beach with good friends.

-Our last day in Honduras we were able to go to the City Dump and serve spaghetti to those working there. It was the craziest thing I’ve ever seen. I still don’t have the words exactly to describe it.

Last month was so good. God taught me a lot about self-discipline, the evil in the world, living a life of thankfulness, and a little about what he has planned for me after the race. This month, Team Yebo is working with a local church in Nicaragua. We are living with the Pastor and his family who speak very little English. I like it a lot so far. Please be praying for my squad, team, and myself as we begin the last 2 months of the race. Pray that we would stay present and really press into what God has for us in these last two months. Pray for clarity on where he is calling us after the race. Thanks so much!
