These past few weeks have just been whisked away. I honestly cannot say where they went. Such is life, when it is full. And life of late has most certainly been just that.
Our first week in Guatemala was spent in teaching, bonding, and just transitioning into this new life of the World Race. Looking back on that week, I am so grateful for it. It gave me ample opportunity just to listen and prepare my heart for what was ahead.
When we were given our assignments as a team, I was elated. My team and I had been assigned to an elderly day care center, which for me was so God given. As some of you already know, I dearly love elderly folks and consider it a privilege and honor to have served them in past. This time was no different.
First, let me tell you a little bit about the place. It is a home that is a new government project where people of ages 60 and up can come and spend the day. They are provided with various services such as a lunch, medical attention if needed, and some hygiene elements- all at no cost to them. Since many of them are physically unable to work, this center is somewhat of a lifeline to them. It might be the only place where they are able to eat and taken care of
My team and I were immediately greeted with an incredible and humbling amount of warmth. At first, the language barrier was awkward but Jesus quickly broke down any walls the enemy was trying to build through that. I was patiently taught how to weave. I was hugged, kissed, and told I was beautiful more in these past weeks than I ever have been. You don't need words for that. I saw Jesus in these people. These people who have hardly anything, who have been forgotten- this is exactly where I found Jesus.
Our last day was incredibly humbling. They left us with divine words of blessing and thanks, as did we. Many a tear was shed and goodbyes were drawn out, we waved until we couldn't see them anymore.
Where my heart would have been left empty because of being poured out, it was instead made full by these people. That is what happens when the thing that binds you together is the Spirit of Christ.
So thankful to all of you for your continued prayers, support, and words of blessing. Much love to you all.
