All throughout life people get asked what their dreams are. As a kid, it's "what do you want to be when you're older?" When going through high school and college it's in the form of, "what are you hoping to do after you graduate?" As an adult, "what is one thing you wish you could do with your life?" The questions are all around us. It's just up to us to follow what it is that our answer may be, no matter how far fetched or crazy it may seem.
When I was a kid I never really had a definite answer. In college, I chose my major because there was no math or science, and ended up loving the field of psychology. When it came time to graduate, however, I was at a loss at what to do. It was then that a friend told me to do something out of the ordinary, think outside the box. He said if you could do anything, without any money involved for any period of time, what would you do. No time was even needed to think, in an instant I knew: I wanted to see the world. I wanted to see God at work in the nations. I wanted to help those I could, but most importantly I wanted to love. I wanted to hold the hand of a child that doesn't always know they have the ability to change the world. I wanted to sit and do laundry with a woman and hear the stories of her life. I wanted to run on the dirt roads chasing a soccer ball with kids who hope to be a professional player someday. I wanted to be in the places where God wanted me to be, where my passions matched up with His plans.
One of my favorite quotes is by Henry David Thoreau. He says, "go confidently in the direction of your dreams, live the life you've imagined." This is how the World Race came up. I was challenged to dream, and I did. I can't say that I know what 2014 holds for me, because I don't have any idea. I do know, however, that the God I love has promised me incredible adventures and laid them before me, it's just up to me to take them and run with it.
