I have come to this place in my faith where I am no longer satisfied to go into these places- desolate, desperate, weary, poor, oppressed places and merely give them “stuff” that perishes, tell them I am giving it to them because Jesus loves them, pat myself on the back for doing good and think that I actually shared the gospel or changed anyone’s life. We need to meet felt physical needs as it says in James, but shoes wear thin, food runs out, and when the missionaries leave and those things fail, what are people left with? God does not desire for people to know that he loves them. God desires that people experience his real and radical, transforming love and be forever changed. He desires for people to possess the Holy Spirit inside of them and for him to be their EVERYTHING– through poverty, through hunger, through pain- he wants to be their EVERYTHING! This was my conviction for the people living under the overpass at the Marikina dump. What could we give them that lasts? God began to speak clearly, I am the bread of life. . .
The following picture is my journal entry from Tuesday 16.03.2010. God woke me up that day at 4am for a prayer time and what he began to speak, was CRAZY, RADICAL, SOMETHING ONLY HE COULD DO! He was calling me to be obedient. I have highlighted parts of the entry to pay close attention to, but if you want to read it all that is fine. This is how God began to form a vision and a prayer within my heart for our friends under the overpass at the Marikina dump.
