I had the best two days at work this week! I kept getting reminded of the HUGENESS and GREATNESS of God this week!
One moment in particular. I was trying to walk into a patient’s room and had to try and squeeze by this monstrocity of a machine half-blocking the door way. Out of this machine ran tubes and wires. three leading out the back, two connected in the sink and one hung over the toilet with water draining out of it. And two ran out of the front leading to another huge machine at the patients bedside. The machine next to the patients bed had even more tube running seemingly- discombobulated in every direction, two of them attached to the patient by large needles. The fluid running through the tubes was stark red.  . . . the patient was receiving dialysis at the bedside.

Though I send patients to our dialysis clinic every day, I have never actually seen the process of accessing their fistula or catheter and hooking them up to the machine. It seemed so complicated. The Dialysis nurse at the bedside with the patient was explaining to me how the machine worked. She pointed out to me the small part of the machine that was the acutal “kidney” or the place where all the blood that was being taken out of the patient was filtered, the waste going to through those tubes connect to the first machine and emptying in the toilet, and the blood being returned to the patient through a different tubing system. It all seemed very complex and the machinery used to accomplish this task was large and somewhat daunting.

And then the patient said something . . . “isn’t it amazing?!” . . . “isn’t the technology amazing?” and before I could even utter a response she was on to something else, talking without stopping to whomever would listen. But my mind stayed there .  .  .

“isn’t it amazing?!” yes, it is amazing, but not the technology. THE ORIGINAL DESIGN IS AMAZING.

“FOR THE WISDOM OF THIS WORLD IS FOLLY WITH GOD. FOR IT IS WRITTEN, “HE CATCHES THE WISE IN THEIR CRAFTINESS,” AND AGAIN, “THE LORD KNOWS THE THOUGHTS OF THE WISE, THAT THEY ARE FUTILE.”
SO LET NO ONE BOAST IN MEN. 1 CORINTHIANS 3:19

“FOR MY THOUGHTS ARE NOT YOUR THOUGHTS, NEITHER ARE YOUR WAYS MY WAYS, DECLARES THE LORD.
FOR AS THE HEAVENS ARE HIGHER THAN THE EARTH, SO ARE MY WAYS HIGHER THAN YOUR WAYS AND MY THOUGHTS THAN YOUR THOUGHTS. ” ISAIAH 55:8-9.

The kidney, an organ no larger than your fist is responsible for filtering out all the waste from your body. The complex tubing system within the kidney to accomplish this task is so tiny, miniscule, cellular, and much more complex than the tube system before my eyes. In order to filter the wastes from the body in a comparable manner to our kidneys, my patient needs to be hooked up to that dialysis machine at least 3 times a week for 4 hours at a time! While our kidneys unbeknownst to us, until the urge to pee, do the same things without so much as a thought, or lift of a finger from us. And this large, bulky, obtrusive machine is the best man could do to try to match God’s compact, ingenious design.

LET NO ONE BOAST IN MAN OR GIVE MAN GOD’S GLORY, FOR HE IS THE CREATOR, DESIGNER, ENGINEER BEHIND ALL OF LIFE’S MOST FASCINATING DISCOVERIES!

to give me more perspective, I meditated on Job this morning.
Then the Lord answered Job out of the whirlwind and said,
“Who is this that darkens counsel by words without knowledge?
Dress for action like a man; I will question you, and you make it known to me.
Where werw you when I laid the foundation of the earth? Tell me, if you have understanding.

Who deteremined its measurements- surely you know!
Or who stretched the line upon it? On what were its bases sunk, or who laid its cornerstone,
when the morning stars sang together and all the sons of God should for joy?

“Or who shut in the sea with doors when it burst out from the womb,
when I made clouds its garment and thick darkness its swaddling band,
and prescribed limits for it and set bars and doors, and said,
‘Thus far shall you come, and no farther, and here shall your proud waves be stayed?'” . . .

“Have you entered the springs of the sea, or walked in the recesses of the deep?
Have the gates of death been revealed to you, or have you seen the gates of deep darkness?
Have you comprehended the expanse of the earth? Declare, if you know all this.
Where is the way to the dwelling of light, and where is the place of darkness,
that you may take it to its territory and that you may discern the paths to its home?
You know, for you were born then, and the number of your days is great!”
Job 38:1-11; 16-21

how great is our God, sing with me how great is our God
and all will sing how great, how great is our God.
