Greetings from Quiche, Guatemala!
This month our whole squad is staying on Hospital grounds at Agape in Action. Our teams have been doing different ministries within the city. My team, Metamorphosis, was working construction in the mountains just outside the city of Quiche in a town/village called Chupol. Above our site on the mountain is a village. Our activities included knocking down walls, clearing land (uprooting small trees and plants), building a road and fence for a conference center in a town located outside of the city in the mountains. The conference center will host pastors, marriage counseling, youth conferences. The pastor has a beautiful vision, and I can’t wait to watch it come to completion. I was glad to take part in helping build something that in turn was going to build others spiritually in Christ. It was hard work. We were the first North American Ministry team to begin the construction at this place and it was an honor. We worked with Pastor Arnaldo who is the leader of both the church and Christian school in the town over called San Pedro. We had the opportunity to visit the school and attend church. We also were invited to their school parade in their town to celebrate the school’s 3-year anniversary. We lead a youth group service one of the week nights despite the monsoon-like rains…which was awesome.
In light of the physical construction that I am participating in, I am also undergoing a construction of the heart. God is revealing my identity in Him. He has given me the tools… His written truth, community, encouragement, and now with Him I must knock down the walls built up over the years, so that He can break me and then rebuild my heart in truth, joy, fullness, gentleness, grace, beauty, peace, and LOVE. I am relaying my foundation built on the truth instead of the lies…on love and joy. He is reconstructing me on the inside, shaping, and molding me into the daughter of Christ that He created me to be. My flesh wants it to happen quickly but I know that He is taking His time so that the pieces of my heart are carefully put back together the right way this time and with His strength, and His love, and His Joy. I also think that He wants me to enjoy the beauty in the process. I am going through metamorphosis. I will emerge changed by none other than the creator of the heavens and the earth.
