Disability vs Inability. Through observation and self-reflection I honestly felt God placing on my heart tonight that we know the distinction of the two.

The internet defines inability as the state of being unable to do something, where as a disability is a disadvantage or handicap due to obstacles. Personally I feel that most of us see a disability, perceive it incorrectly, and move on. We don’t see that we are completely able to confront our Sin, but see breaking these chains as an impossible task. One of the most popular verses in scripture Philippians 4:13 blatantly states that our God has granted us the power to do anything in His will if we have accepted Him. Yet, do you see this as the most popular way to live? I see too many people acting as if they are held to the ground by chains, when God has already removed them.

One of my passions I have discovered in the past few years is working with peers of mine who have disabilities. My specialty within this is attempting to communicate and connect with our lowest functioning students. These lovely individuals have unanimously recognized physical and mental disabilities, yet they still contain the ability to feel joy, comfort, and love. The students who are able to express themselves through talking and have shared with me what they want out of life are truly inspiring. They never take a moment to question if their current situation could restrict their happiness. And those who can not communicate this way show their joy through laughter and affection. They contain the ability to communicate a fraction of God’s love to others without saying a word. How many of us can say the same thing? Yes, those of us who are in blessed health and state of mind. How many of us can say we live our lives to the fullest in spite of our personal disabilities?

Some of us struggle with disabilities, such as insecurity, self doubt, depression, not loving others, lying, pride, shame, laziness, etc. These are obstacles placed in our paths that don’t come from God. Sin has infected our minds into making us believe that these are unchangeable circumstances we have to carry everyday. Does carrying this weight on our own make us stronger in the end? Or worn to threads? By accepting these traits, have we reached self-actualization? Or a skewed view of reality?

Why live in the chains of Sin any longer? We can give all of these things to God and He will work through them with us. We have been deceived into believing that our circumstances give us the inability to reach for what we really want out of life. You are not unable to find happiness, Sin has just used depression as an obstacle too big to take on. You are not unable to live in comfort, Sin has planted worry and anxiety in your mind to grow into a raging struggle. You are NOT unable to be worthy of God’s love, Sin has infected your self-perception with lies. God is crying for us to walk away from these chains Jesus already broke on that cross.

So with this being said, in these next coming days, weeks, and months, I challenge you and myself to identify what inabilities and what disabilities are in our lives. We will find that almost every single one of our “inabilities” is just an obstacle in disguise that God has already prepared for us to overcome. There is so much more to come.

Hey guys! So I just want to acknowledge that in 9 months my launch will be in motion! 9 months away from this exact moment I could be in Atlanta spending time in preparation or already on a plane to Romania! God has been so good to me through this process by granting me comfort and excitement outweighing my fear and anxiety. Over the next 9 months I just pray that I can hold onto this joy that has been planted in me leading up to the race. I need support in any way possible through prayer, community, and donations. I would love to sit down and talk to anyone reading this and really explain what God is doing in my life and so many others right now through the World Race! If you want to donate to my race and support me on this journey you can donate in these ways:
