It’s all for the Lord… Life in Chincha, Peru

This month, my team is one of three teams that was chosen to stay in Peru for a second month. We moved from Trujillo, Peru to Chincha, Peru. Chincha is about 3 hours south of Lima. We are living and working alongside Team Veracity.

Team Veracity and Team Favoured are working with Pastor Nestor of (church name). We are living in the church. The church is still under construction and so we are living very simply this month. We have power, two gas burners, and we usually have running water (sometimes it gets shut off). We have our tents/ hammocks set up in the sanctuary (the roof is temporary and made out of cloth).

Our ministries vary from day to day but so far we have led services, dug trenches for foundation for the church, painted church members homes, and began digging a hole for a septic system for a squatting community. Pastor Nestor has been such an example to us of what it means to do everything for the Lord. The Bible says that in everything you do, do it for the Lord. This man has such a heart for the Lord. He works diligently during the day doing exhausting physical labor then seamlessly transitions into the evening services. He has a humble heart and is passionate about his God! Pastor Nestor doesn’t speak English and we don’t have any team members that speak Spanish but love needs no translation and that has been so evident in our relationship with Pastor Nestor.

Many children run around the neighborhood and if you were here, you’d often find us scooping them up in our arms and just playing with them.  They are so joyful and full of energy! After services, the children love to run around the sanctuary or have dance parties with us. I love watching the joy on their faces!

This has been one of my favorite ministries so far! We only have 9 days left here. It makes me sad to go so soon but I’m also taking advantage of each moment we have here!
