Greetings Reader,
For the past month and a half as I have begun preparing myself for my up and coming race I’ve learned quite a few things.
1.) Camping gear is expensive.
2.) Walking two miles in 40 minutes with 60lbs of books on your back is not as easy as it sounds.
3.) Having multiple injections (9! I have to get 9 shots!) to prevent disease will be extremely painful. (Word to the wise… don’t get them all in the same arm.)
And lastly… I hate asking people for financial support.
For those of you who know me personally and have spent any amount of time with me you’ll know that I have a slight obsession with London. (Fell free to check out my Pinterest Board ingeniously entitled “London obsession.”) I’m not quite sure when or where this love stemmed from, but ever since I was a child I’ve been drawn to the history of our mother nation. There you find myths and legends that tell of men and women with amazing courage, honor, and loyalty. Such stories like King Arthur and the Knights of the Round Table or Robin Hood and his band of Merry Men. These two are probably my absolute favorite tales because of what they teach.
The Legend of King Arthur and his Noble Knights in no small way taught me about equality. No man or woman that sat at the Round Table had more than they needed and each one earned their spot no matter of the station that they were born with. If there was a threat to them they would come together and fight for what they believed in and gave their all with every breath.
The tale of Robin the Hood and his band of misfits taught me about generosity. Men and women that believed in giving what they had to serve and defend the least of these. In a land of greed they cared for the brothers and sisters around them and fought for justice. They elevated the common people and made it known that no one man was more important than the other.
I truly believe that stories like these helped me with my decision to apply to The World Race. Though these are works of fiction they emulate the real men and women of the scripture. Because of them and their remarkable courage, trust, faith, and generosity we know who Jesus is. How he died for the world, all of it and everyone in it. How amazing is that? (Answer: uh… absolutely amazing!)
The truth of Jesus’ story is the best of all stories, fiction and non-fiction alike. This story brings forgiveness and hope to all who listen. Lives are forever changed.
In all honesty I never thought that I would take God’s word to the ends of the earth like he commanded. I’m quite comfortable showing his love here at home, but I know he wants more for me. So as I continue to prepare for my journey I ask for help. Help me spread the word of God like the men and women we admire most.
There are many things that I need (camping gear, spending money, electronics for communication while I’m away) so I will be able to do what the Lord has asked of me, but my biggest need is financial.
A donation of $25 a month for six months from 100 friends would completely pay for my trip cost and my medical insurance while on my journey. If you are willing and able to do so I would be overwhelmingly grateful.
I want to thank all who have donated so far and for your prayers as I embark on this wonderful/terrifying journey. Your support and prayers will never go unnoticed.
With Gratitude,
Kirbie Head, World Racer
