“God is love.”
1 John 4:16
A simple and yet profound truth.
I have been reading through 1 Samuel and have been seen some of the parallels the Bible has for God’s magnificent love.
In this book, the relationship of Jonathan and David is built around Jonathan feeling “he loved him [David] as he loved himself.”( 1 Samuel 20:17) The first time I read this I thought that is selfish. But it’s not.
If we recall the teaching Jesus had on loving our neighbor, He said, “Love your neighbor as you love yourself.” (Mark 12:31) If you only love yourself a little, then you can only love your neighbor a little. We can think of it in a different way. If you love yourself to a level 4 out of the potential level 10, then you are only filling your glass up to a level 4. Once we start to fill up our cup, loving ourselves fully the way God created us, then we can love others out of our full potential 10 and pour out a full glass instead of a partial glass.
Panning back to Jonathan and David’s story, we can see God’s love. God loves us as He loves himself. I imagine He looks down at His creations and says, “Wow, I did dang good with that one. Oh and look at that beauty.” Everything God makes is perfect and He loves it. God loves himself as He is the very essence of Love itself.
I am officially in Moth Three of the World Race! I am in Pine Town, South Africa, volunteering at Hope House. This home was established as a place for abandoned babies to live as they are finding a permanent place (Other family members or adoption). The home is run by two amazing ladies, Lynn and Sonia. They have amazing strength and energy. They look after up to 12 babies at a time. Right now, the home is filled with 10 children: two toddles, two 1 week old babies, and 6 babies between a month and 2 years. The home oozes love and excitement.
My team looks after the children all hours of the day, including the night. We are learning so many mom tricks and are having a fun time loving on babies. We have also had the opportunity to get to know Lynn, Sonia, other volunteers, workers and neighbors through all the time we have spent with them. We have had some worship nights and been able to hear their stories. Thanks for continuing to follow my race.
Sending love and prayers home,
Kimmy
