Hey everyone! I know it has been a while since I blogged last, but a lot has happened! For starters, I graduated a few weeks ago from Fort Lewis with a Bachelors of Art degree in Music! Woo hoo! I had family in town to help me celebrate and it was a great weekend!
That same weekend was confirmation Sunday. I have been a leader for this 5 month long class that eight graders can choose to take to learn more about their faith. The same students that were in the class had been in the small group that I have led for the past three years. I felt like a proud Mom as my girls confirmed their faith in front of the whole church.
The next day, I got on the plane, and left for a 10 day mission trip to Haiti with my college ministry, Rooted. A team of 11 of us stayed in a remote fishing village on the beach in Northern Haiti called Mole St. Nicholas where we served the community in a variety of ways. This community did not have clean drinking water and lived in mostly tin roofed houses with the walls made from woven together palm branches. We helped run a clinic, a three day Vacation Bible School, played with the orphans that were on the mission base, and went into the community to pray and play with people and children. I could go on and on about the trip, but I have to stop somewhere. A huge part of my heart is still in Haiti with the people there.
As with every mission trip I have gone on, I go because I desire to serve in some way, but what I end up gaining and learning is far beyond what I had expected. The people in Haiti are not to be pitied. Yes, they do not have iPhones or Netflix, but they have life and friends. They live so simply and are happy. It would be an understatement to say that everyone is content with the life they have there and that everyone is full and healthy. Many people asked us to pray for them in those ways, but what they do have and how they see life is something I came to appreciate and am trying to learn from.
I am so excited for the World Race even more now. That week was such a highlight of God and His power and love. I am stoked to serve Him and learn from this service, whatever God might have in store to teach me.
And to top this all off, I AM FULLY FUNDED! I am so amazed by God and how faithful he has been through family, friends, and strangers! Thank you again! I have really realized how impactful 1 Timothy 4:12 is. “Don’t let anyone look down on you because you are young, but set an example for the believers in speech, in conduct, in love, in faith and in purity.” I have had family, family friends, friends my own age and younger support me. My last donation that brought me to be fully funded was donated by the confirmation class I mentioned earlier. God is alive and moving in every generation! (Donations are still being processed in case you are wondering why my bar does not say I am at my goal.)
I will be leaving for training camp in Georgia on June 8th to experience/ learn more about what to expect on the race. I cannot believe how fast the time has gone!
“Create in me a pure heart, O God,
and renew a steadfast spirit within me.”
“My sacrifice, O God, is a broken spirit;
a broken and contrite heart
you, God, will not despise.”
Psalm 51:10 and 17
(I have been studying this Psalms the past few weeks and these verses have stuck out so I wanted to share them.)
