We had to have live it up for one night to close out the year. After living in the same 3-5 outfits for 11 months, even I started to feel a little scummy. Especially here in Asia were everybody dresses to impress.
Tonight was our chance to put on our best face and shine for an hour or two – or however long you could make it last. Most of the girls have been running around town the last few days in search of something special to make them feel pretty. This is not an easy task for most of us in the middle of a “one size fits all’ except for me culture. I did manage to find a top that fit, so my night turned out okay.
That may sound a little shallow, and it is, but lets face it, we all need a little bit of a boost now and then. It has been a tough week or looking back, looking in, looking ahead, and coming to grips with the fact that it will all be over in a few short days. The people we have fought so hard to love, are going back to their own lives and their own journey. That is hard.
It was really nice to see everybody shine, and lift their heads a little higher. I’m really gonna miss these guys. We are all going to need a lot of love and support and grace from the people back home, and a lot of hugs and back rubs would be good too. We’ve gotten pretty used to that from living in tight community.
The rest of our time here in Hong Kong is free time, so I’m hoping to take in a few more sites before Monday. It is so weird to have a final destination after being on the move for so long. I don’t know how I will handle staying in one place for more than a month.
