Ladies for sale. How absurd does that sound? How much more absurd does it sound to ask for money do that I can buy a lady for a night? As bad as that sounds, it is exactly what I am asking.
Women put out on display. The game is, come and try me out for the cost of a drink or two. If you are not sold, you can say good night and try another. If you like what you find, you can make the purchase. For around 500-600 Baht ($15-$18), she is yours for the night.
I don’t know if that price is all inclusive, or if it only gets her out of the bar, but it doesn’t matter to me. For under $20, I can save one of these women from their nightmare; for at least one night. I can take them bowling or shopping or whatever, and get them out of that dreadful bar.
Outside of that bar, she is free to be herself. Free to let down her guard and her defenses. Free to talk to, and free to be heard. It is hard to really talk at the bars. It is so loud, and somebody is always watching. I always fear that I will get them in trouble by taking them away from paying customers. We usually buy drinks, but water and coke don’t make as much money as the beer or liquer.
I want to get to know them, hear their stories, and talk freely about the choices they have and the God that loves them and wants to set them free. And, I would rather spend 600 Baht to set them free for a night, than to spend 300-500 Baht on cokes at the bar. They jack the prices way up so they can make money there.
Although we need to by the drinks to meet them, it doesn’t make sense to keep doing that when you can get them out of there and spend a whole night with them for just a little more.
I know that $20 doesn’t sound like much, and it really isn’t, but with our tight budget, it is adding up pretty quickly. Our lodging is only 200 Baht a night, and our food budget is about 100 Baht a day. We just do not have the funds to do this kind of ministry on a nightly basis.
I don’t believe that lack of money is a good reason to compromise in ministry, so I am going to continue in faith that God will provide for this need. If you pray about it and feel like this is something you would like to help us with, please email me so we can make discuss the best way to do that.
