We made it to Dondo after 36 hours of bus travel. Thank you so much for your prayers. I know they were with us in Maputo when we had to change buses.
We got to Maputo after dark, and had to find and arrange transportation for us and all of our stuff. It was pretty sketchy, but the guys did a great job of looking out for us girls.
We arrived at the Iris compound in Dondo, and were welcomed by a lot of the boys that live there. If was great to see them, but since it was dark we could only see their bright smiles. It was great to meet them again in daylight the next morning.
We get to join them for meals, standing in the meal line to receive our bread and tea for breakfast or rice and beans or vegetables for lunch and dinner. It is a new experience for us, and we are having to adjust to eating the same thing for lunch and dinner. The meals are planned by the day of the week. Sunday is always beans and rice, Saturday was kale and rice.
The guys are having a great time with all of the boys. It is a welcome change for them to have more males than females for once. For us, it can be a little intimmidating. I do not feel threatened in any way, but it is impossible to be discrete. There are always eyes on you wherever you go. Your only refuge is to stay in your tent or hide in the girls house.
It is awesome to be here though. We leave tomorrow to go do flood relief and deliver food. We do not know how long we will be there. It will be a great ministry opportunity. Keep praying. We have another 8hrs in the back of a truck to get there.
