I believe…

… that anyone can change the world. In fact, I believe that everyone does change the world. The young, the old, the meek, the proud, the saint, the sinner, the weak, the strong, the newborn and even the unborn. We all have an effect on the world around us.

Most of my life, I considered myself worthless. I was an outcast, a loner, forgotten by the world. Maybe not forgotten, just insignificant and ignored. The “nerds” got more attention than me. They were never last to be chosen, I was. I was invisible, non-existent to the world around me.

I never really set any goals, because I never thought I could reach them. Better to spare myself the humility of failure. It just seemed easier not to try.

What does that have to do with changing the world?

It changed the one surrounding me. Instead of aiming for the stars, I dug a whole. Rather than reaching out, I pushed away.

How many people did I reject because I assumed I was already rejected? How many people did I hurt, because I didn’t want be the one to get hurt? How many people did I hate because I thought they hated me?

The lies I belived effected everything I did, and everyone I met. They made my corner of the world just a little darker. It became easier to hide, easier to disappear.

The beauty of darkness, is that it reveals light. Just as it is hard to see a flashlight in the daytime, it is hard to find Christ when your life seems pretty good. But when you are burried in depression and dispare, even the slightest little bit of His radiance pierces through your darkness. When His light shines into those dark places, it reveals quite a mess and makes you pretty eager to move on out.

Praise God we are given a new life in Christ. What other time in your life do you get to just close the door on your mess and walk away, knowing you never have to lift a finger to clean it up?

That’s changing the world, but it doesn’t end there. When one life is renewed, it gives birth to an fountain of change. Hope flowers, love flows and life is filled with promise as you view the world through fresh eyes.

You begin looking out instead of in, and up instead of down; reaching out to the people around you, and reaching up to the God who made you. The world seems so much bigger, yet so much closer. There is so much to see and so much to experience. The world is at your fingertips waiting to be explored.

I, who thought I could do nothing, now know I am able to do all things through Christ who stengthens me. I can warm a cold heart with a smile, offer hope with a hug, tear down walls with an open hand, and build bridges with friendship. I can heal the broken, I can free the captive, and I can be the light that guides a lost soul home.

I believe we all change the world. The important question to ask is, what kind of world do you want it to be?
